Mysteriously appearing overnight in 1993, “having sprouted from the earth or fallen from the sky,” BoatHenge is an eclectic art installation near Columbia, Missouri.  Accessible by kayak or bike on the Katy Trail between Rocheport and Jefferson City, BoatHenge features six fiberglass boats arranged to exactly match the original Stonehenge in England.  While all speculation is unconfirmed, the creators claim that Meriwether Lewis camped at the BoatHenge site in 1804.  BoatHenge has inspired a cult following, with enthusiasts visiting the world’s most recognizable monuments while wearing BoatHenge merchandise.  Surviving floods, tornadoes, and flying bigheaded silver carp, BoatHenge is a quintessentially American monument, inspiring and mystifying visitors for decades.
