Blue Mountain Observatory is located at the peak of Blue Mountain. Less than a one-hour drive from downtown Missoula, visitors will reach the observatory and catch a glimpse of what all Blue Mountain has to offer!
En route, travelers will pass trailheads with different purposes, see parts of the disc golf course, and possibly wildlife if you look close enough. Upon reaching the parking area, a roughly 400 yard walk on a dirt road will bring you to the Blue Mountain Observatory at an elevation of 6,300 feet. From then on, you will be in guided by University of Montana astronomers and Western Montana Astronomical Association members. They will guide you as you look through the telescopes and point out planets, constellations and more. They will also teach you about current discoveries and explain star stories from different cultures.
